Brisbane Bulldogs Tug-of-War
News Pulletin No 12

Well done to all competitors that took part in the Beenleigh Show TOW, a special thanks to Maitland and Dumaresq for making the trip and to Beenleigh RSL for sponsoring the event. The Beenleigh Show has what every TOW comp needs, a noisy, enthusiastic and huge crowd. Again Dumaresq has shown they are the benchmark for Aussie teams in all weight divisions, hopefully we can learn a bit from them when we travel to Steff's property on 05 Nov 05. Although half of the Brisbane Bulldogs Team (and a couple of Dumaresq's) were having 'anxiety attacks' at such a large police presence at the show, the'cops' put up a good fight and showed a lot of potential, but we expected that. I believe a Qld police team (with training and correct footwear) could break a few hearts at the World Police Games in Adelaide next year. Maitland demonstrated they are going to be a problem especially in the lighter divisions. Greg brought along ex- Army boy Sebastian who showed determination and a willingness to learn, hopefully he will give The Brisbane Bulldogs a go! It was a great thrill for the kids and their parents to beat the competitors. Also, the 'State of Origin' concept may not mean much to us 'pullers' but it does get the crowd fired up and was once again was a huge success. More photos on our website www.tug-o-war.asn.au
While Paul and Jerry were selling raffle tickets and encouraging people to have a go at the 'Eganometer' they met Ian Haisman. Not only did he pull an impressive 120kg but it turns out he was a puller with Hedge End and has represented England in under 21's. Welcome aboard Ian!
Organising a competition from scratch is an onerous, time-consuming task and fraught with disaster. However, we have a few in our midst willing to grasp the nettle and give it a go. Jerry, as usual left his comfort zone and gave it a go and, in my assesment (and that of many others) he came up smelling of roses. From anecdotal reports The Beenleigh Show executive and Beenleigh RSL were very happy with the competition and keen to do it again next year.

Ian Haisman and

Josh join the
Brisbane Bulldogs ranks.
